It’s nice to see Garmin pushing forward in the running metrics space. As Ray notes, it continues to drive the ConnectIQ platform forward in more ‘open’ ways than their original (closed) implementation of Running Dynamics. I’m grateful for the work that Stryd have done to push through things with Garmin, as we got the door slammed fairly hard on us back in 2013 (at the ANT+ Conference) and were left going down the Bluetooth Smart path. Fast-forward 4 years, and it’s very cool to be launching RunScribe Plus with all that’s now possible with ConnectIQ, with native BLE support in the Apple Watch, … going from a closed ecosystem to an open ecosystem with a whole lot of possibilities!
And to Ray’s point about running power accuracy claims, I came across this over the weekend. The author does a very thorough job of defining and capturing some of the ‘challenges’ of Running Power (specifically what’s measured vs. what’s modeled):
OK, back to submitting ConnectIQ Apps to Garmin now [I hope they’re kind to me!!!]
